Drumming
- Africa is the Drum continent of the world and amongst ethnic Africans
drumming has always been the most fundamental group activity
for communication. Interactive drumming has become a cutting edge psychological
tool, increasingly being used in the business environment as a means of
stress release, group bonding,
team building and synchronising of thought
processes. For centuries people have used the drumming to
release stress, raise their spirits, enhance clarity and focus, and develop
co-operation and community bonds. Group drumming is a non-competitive
activity where each person, regardless of age, sex, race or position within
the company has an equal part to play.
How it works
- A traditional drum will be provided for each delegate.
- We will give you an introduction to drumming (within 10 minutes you
will be drumming together!).
- We will teach you the very basics and two expert, authentic rhythms.
- These rhythms will be combined with other percussion instruments and
a traditional song called "Tongolo".
- This will conclude on a high note, where the delegates will put the
whole program together, playing the drum and/or other percussion instruments
and singing!.
- Estimated time of workshop - one hour.

What we require
- A chair has to be provided for each delegate, arranged in a full circle
(preferably) or 2 or 3 (max) half circles.
- Hand jewellery to be removed - rings, watches, bangles etc. might
hurt you or be damaged when hitting a hard surface continuously.
- Ladies to wear pants (preferably) or longer dresses.
- A power point for groups 80 and more, for our sound system.
Where
- In or outdoors (undercover and shaded areas work best). In the African
Bush, a Boma, around a bonfire, around the pool, in the garden or in
conference rooms or halls.

Note
- We cannot give a constructive teambuilding
session if delegates are too intoxicated with alcohol. In this case,
we will divert to a casual drumming circle.
- Optional - we offer souvenirs in the form of Riempie & Djembe drums
(plain or with your company logo), keyrings etc.
